Biography

Carlos Carrillo (b.1972, Mexican/American, he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist/engineer living and working in Austin, Texas. Carlos received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York,NY. in 2002. His influential teachers at SVA included artists such as Jack Whitten, Tim Rollins, Frank Gillette, Suzanne Anker, and Andrew Ginzel, with whom he had in-depth conversations, developing his artistic voice.

"The Wild Bunch", curated by Tim Rollins, at White Box Gallery, Chelsea – New York, NY. 2004. “Artists at Work”, D.U.M.B.O. Most recently Carlos was selected to exhibit at the Texas Biennial in Houston, TX. 2024/2025.

By day, Carlos is an engineer at AMD an AI (artificial intelligence) company. In the studio, he is currently working on a new collection of art works designed to be experienced in real life (IRL). Carlos Carrillo remains committed to continuing his interdisciplinary practices, exploring the relentless pace of modern life, particularly within the tech industry, and inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of disconnection in an increasingly digitized world.
